Vilm, 31.08.2017 From 27 to 31 August, an international exchange of information and experience on specific access schemes for the use of genetic resources in the respective countries of origin took place on the island of Vilm. Representatives of international law enforcement agencies from 19 states and five continents participated in this.

Berlin, 20 September 2017: Prof. Klaus Toepfer, the former Executive Director of the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP), as well as reresentatives of the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation and the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) inaugurated today the fourth cycle of the extra-occupational Klaus-Toepfer-Fellowship Programme for Future Leaders in Nature Conservation from Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

 Vilm, 15.07.2017 People with a migration background as well as refugees are so far not adequately addressed in nature conservation. They are hardly members of conservation NGOs or groups and are not really considered when conservation activities are planned. Therefore, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) in collaboration with the State Nature Academy of Northrhine-Westphalia and the NABU conservation station Münsterland conducted a seminar at the International Academy for Nature Conservation Isle of Vilm (INA) from 27 – 30 June 2017: „Nature conservation for all – Programmes for people with migration background and refugees “.

Vilm, 07.07.2017 As starting point for the development of new global protected area related targets beyond 2020 serves a workshop held at the International Academy for Nature Conservation convened by the “Beyond Aichi”-Task Force of the World Commission on Protected Areas of IUCN and the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation.

Vilm, 27.06.2017 The Specialist Group on Privately Protected Areas (PPAs) and Nature Stewardship is developing global advice on the establishment, recognition and reporting of PPAs. As a first step towards developing this guidance the specialist group, in partnership with the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, convened an expert workshop in June 2017 at the International Academy for Nature Conservation on the Isle of Vilm.

Vilm, 12.05.2017 Experts in agriculture and ecology discussed during a workshop on the topic “Nature Conservation Advice for Agriculture and Ecology in Training and Policy” at the International Academy Isle of Vilm of BfN various approaches to strengthen nature conservation advice for agricultural farms. The results of the discussions are summarised in an implementation dossier.

Vilm, 27.04.2017 During the course of several weeks in January a Ringed Seal (Pusa hispida ssp. botnica) could be observed by guests and staff at the coast of Isle of Vilm.
